A Sermon Series On The Book Of Acts
Focus Scripture: Acts 16:9-15
16:9 During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of Macedonia pleading with him and saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us."
16:10 When he had seen the vision, we immediately tried to cross over to Macedonia, being convinced that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them.
16:11 We set sail from Troas and took a straight course to Samothrace, the following day to Neapolis,
16:12 and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city for some days.
16:13 On the sabbath day we went outside the gate by the river, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who had gathered there.
16:14 A certain woman named Lydia, a worshiper of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen eagerly to what was said by Paul.
16:15 When she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home." And she prevailed upon us.

Have you ever picked up the bible to read the Word of God and found yourself saying, "what does that really mean to me, in my life and the world today"? Are you curious to experience a journey into the reality of the lives of those who lived during ancient biblical times? Are you searching for understanding and the meaning in all of it? Is it your time to dive in for the first time or are you being lead to re-enter the waters of divine revelation? If this sounds like you, you are not alone!
UEC's new bible study is in session! We enter this journey into a study of scripture with an open mind and heart; welcoming all to a seat at the table of our virtual Bible Study. Together, we will engage in the study of scripture, within the context of life then, bringing forth our understanding of what that means to us, in the here and now. We seek to listen for how God was speaking thousands of years ago and learn to hear that very same voice, as it has traveled through evolving and changing times, into our lives and world today.
The Word of God, lives. It is an essence of the Spirit that has taken a journey through the times. We understand that scripture is humanity's discernment of God through the lens of what they understood to be life's constructs, in their time of existence. As the Spirit has evolved humankind, we have changed and so have the ways we have been called to love. Together, we have created changes in our world that continue to draw us toward fighting the good fight, to be more of a reflection of a Christ-like world. One thing hasn't changed; that one thing is God and the way we are called to live. Each step in a more loving direction teaches us that we are being called to walk forward in the movement of the Holy Spirit.
UEC Bible Study invites you to join us each week, where we will journey into the Word of God with a topic related to our focus scriptures. Together, we will study scripture in context and follow our time with an open discussion, ending our sessions in a time of prayer.
Our faith may be thousands of years old, but our thinking is not!
