Love is the essence of God. This love is unconditional, accepting each of us just as we are, for who we are. Love doesn't ask where we have come from, it doesn't request a recollection of our past or question the color of our skin, our identity, who we love, where we live or how much money we make. God loves all beings, all people and all families. In the footsteps of our creator, so do we. Everyone is loved.
God's mercy for the people of our world is a gift that keeps giving. There is no lost soul that is too far gone. God's grace is always there, so lovingly available to each of us as we move along our journey.
We are spirits in a body, not bodies with a spirit. The spiritual journey is surely not the path of least resistance. Following Christ is a calling on our lives that is not always easy. We are called to love and welcome all, challenge oppression, seek justice and equality, to be kind, serve others and love our neighbor as ourselves. Along the way, we hit bumps and climb mountains, we grow tired and weary. It is normal to experience the hills and valleys of our faith-journey. We are never alone along the way, there is always someone to lift us back up onto our feet again.
"Our faith may be thousands of years old, but our thinking is not." We believe that God is still speaking in our world today, helping us to navigate our faith-walk without the systems of ancient biblical culture that no longer serve our modern world. We believe it is crucial that we filter our ideals and interpretations through the love and character of Christ. God is not bound inside of a leather book. God is alive and will continue to do new things in our present and future world. We believe in listening for that voice that still speaks.
In Genesis, Jacob wrestled with God and was renamed Israel because he had wrestled with God and humans and had overcome. When we question, we are in a good place. We encourage others to ask questions and to come to their own truths and understanding of God and what scripture means to them. We want to speak openly about our doubts and faith, for all things are in God. The closer we become to God, the more questions we may have to ask. We encourage everyone to challenge their understanding and ask the hard questions that might be in their mind.
Everyone is in ministry at UEC. To all a word has been given to preach to someone who needs to hear a message of hope. Each person in the body of Christ has a gift. Yes, everyone! You may have a gift of being a great listener, maybe you are a helper and love to serve others. For some, the gift of music has been given. Another could have the skills to maintain the building or operate the tech equipment. There is a gift of leading worship, developing, being an administrator, an educator, decorator or organizer and many more! Together the spirit is using all of them to operate the body of Christ. If you are good at something and you find yourself drawn to it like a moth to a flame, you have gift to be used! Everyone is equal in this body and holds great and equal value to the ministry.
We are walking through times of restoration of all creation. Our future is one that will burst forth a love and equality for all people, bringing together a just world for all. It is our calling to take part in the changes of today, for a better tomorrow, for all of the world's beloved people. Our mission is to be One body united by Christ's love. We see our purpose as loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves. Our mission is to be united in Spirit and by God's grace; welcoming all, loving all and seeking justice for all.
