Love is the essence of God. This love is unconditional, accepting each of us just as we are, for who we are. Love doesn't ask where we have come from, it doesn't request a recollection of our past or question the color of our skin, our identity, who we love, where we live or how much money we make. God loves all beings, all people and all families. In the footsteps of our creator, so do we. Everyone is loved.
God's mercy for the people of our world is a gift that keeps giving. There is no lost soul that is too far gone. God's grace is always there, so lovingly available to each of us as we move along our journey.
We are spirits in a body, not bodies with a spirit. The spiritual journey is surely not the path of least resistance. We are called- and that's not always easy! We are called to welcome all, challenge oppression, and to seek justice and equality for all. The greatest of these is to love, for love is of the Spirit.
"Our faith may be thousands of years old, but our thinking is not." We believe that God is still speaking in our world today, helping us to navigate our faith-walk without the systems of ancient biblical culture that no longer serve our modern world. We believe it is crucial that we filter our ideals and interpretations through the love and character of Christ. God is not bound inside of a leather book. Listen; God is still speaking in our lives today.
In Genesis, Jacob wrestled with God and was renamed Israel because he had wrestled with God and humans and had overcome. When we question, we are in a good place. We encourage others to ask questions and to come to their own truths and understanding of God and what scripture means to them. We want to speak openly about our doubts and faith, for all things are in God. The closer we become to God, the more questions we may have to ask. We encourage everyone to challenge their understanding and ask the hard questions that might be in their mind.
To all a word has been given to preach to someone who needs to hear it. Each person in the body of Christ has a gift. Yes, everyone! Together the spirit is using all gifts to operate the body of Christ. If you are good at something and you find yourself drawn to it like a moth to a flame, you have gift to be used! Everyone is equal in this body and holds great and equal value to the ministry. Everyone is in ministry at UEC.
We are walking through times of restoration of all creation. Our future is one that will burst forth a love and equality for all people, bringing together a just world for all. It is our calling to take part in the changes of today, for a better tomorrow, for all, not some. Our mission is to be One body united by Christ's love. We see our purpose as loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves.
